Taylor Swift’s Discography Returns to TikTok Ahead of New Album Release
Taylor Swift’s music has made a triumphant return to TikTok after a brief absence. Fans can now enjoy official audio for hits like “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” “Cruel Summer,” and “Style (Taylor’s Version)” on the popular short-form app. This exciting development comes just over a week before the highly anticipated release of Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” set to drop on April 19.
The singer’s catalog was previously removed from TikTok in February following a licensing disagreement between the parent company of her record label, Universal Music Group, and the app. This move affected songs by many other top artists as well, including Drake, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, and more. Swift’s ownership of her Big Machine catalog has been a hot topic in recent years, especially after her first six albums were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019.
In response to losing control of her earlier recordings, Swift vowed to re-record each album and release them under the title “Taylor’s Version.” She has since re-released versions of “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now,” and “1989.” The return of her music to TikTok is particularly significant as it includes the tracks that she owns the rights to.
The licensing dispute between Universal Music Group and TikTok centered around artist and songwriter compensation, with TikTok proposing a rate that UMG deemed inadequate. Despite the disagreement, Swift’s music is now back on the platform for fans to enjoy. Representatives for TikTok, Universal, and Universal Music Publishing Group, where Swift is signed as a songwriter, have not yet commented on the situation.
As fans eagerly await the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” they can now enjoy revisiting some of Swift’s classic hits on TikTok, setting the stage for what promises to be another successful era for the superstar artist.
