Taylor Swift’s Highest Earner This Year Won’t Be Her Latest Album

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Expected to Drive Majority of 2024 Income

The highly anticipated release of Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” has already made waves in the music industry. With millions of streams within hours of its release, it is expected to top the Billboard chart like Swift’s previous albums. However, despite the album’s success, it is not where Swift will earn the majority of her income this year.

The remaining leg of her Eras Tour, set to kick off in Paris next month and run through December, is projected to be the biggest contributor to Swift’s fortune in 2024. Last year, her Eras Tour brought in over $1 billion in ticket sales, and with an additional 86 dates scheduled for this year, Swift is expected to earn nine figures from ticket sales alone.

Concerts not only bring in money from ticket sales but also from merchandise. Pollstar estimates that fans spend an average of $40 on merch at Swift’s concerts, resulting in about $175 million in gross merch sales last year. Bloomberg estimated that between box office and merchandise, Swift pocketed $225 million from her first 57 Eras Tour dates.

Swift’s success on the road is not unique in the music industry, as many top earners generate more than half of their income from touring. Before the rise of streaming, artists made most of their money from physical music sales, which funded their ability to tour. However, with the shift to streaming, artists like Swift now rely heavily on live performances for their income.

Despite her success in streaming and record sales, Swift’s biggest earnings come from her live performances. With her dedicated fan base and record-breaking ticket sales, Swift’s Eras Tour is set to solidify her status as one of the highest-earning artists in the industry.
