Taylor Swift’s Decision to Rerecord All of Her Old Songs: The Story Behind 1989 (Taylor’s Version)

Taylor Swift Announces Rerecording of “1989” Album

Taylor Swift has just announced that she will be rerecording her critically acclaimed album “1989.” This news comes as part of Swift’s ongoing effort to reclaim ownership of her music catalog after losing the rights to her masters to music manager Scooter Braun in 2019.

Swift’s decision to rerecord her old music stems from the sale of her former record label, Big Machine Records, to Braun. This sale gave Braun control over the master recordings of Swift’s earlier music, prompting Swift to take action to regain control over her work.

Since then, Swift has been steadily rerecording her old albums, starting with “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” in April 2021, followed by “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” With the upcoming release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” Swift will once again take ownership of one of her most beloved albums.

By rerecording her old music, Swift aims to give licensers the option to work directly with her and her team, bypassing the need to go through Braun. This move allows Swift to reclaim control over her music and how it is used, a significant step in her ongoing battle for artistic autonomy.

In addition to her rerecordings, Swift has also been busy during the pandemic, surprising fans with the release of two new albums, “Folklore” and “Evermore.” With “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” on the horizon, Swift continues to rewrite her own musical history on her own terms.

Stay tuned for more updates on Taylor Swift’s journey to reclaim her music and the release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”
