Taylor Swift’s Surprise Album Release: “The Tortured Poets Department” Deluxe Edition with 15 Extra Songs
Taylor Swift fans were in for a double treat early Friday morning as the pop sensation released not one, but two versions of her highly anticipated album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” The standard edition, featuring 16 songs, was dropped at midnight ET, followed by a surprise deluxe edition titled “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” just two hours later, boasting a whopping 31 tracks.
Among the additional songs included in the deluxe edition were four previously teased vinyl-exclusive bonus tracks, such as “The Black Dog,” “The Albatross,” “The Bolter,” and “The Manuscript,” while the remaining 11 were kept hidden from fans until the release. This move by Swift mirrors a similar surprise tactic she employed in 2022 with the extended version of “Midnights.”
Rumors of a double album release had been circulating earlier in the week, fueled by cryptic clues from Swift herself, including a countdown on her website to 2 a.m. ET. Despite some speculation, the extended length of “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” still managed to shock many fans online.
All the additional songs on both versions of the album were written by Swift and co-produced with either Jack Antonoff or Aaron Dessner, with the exception of “I Look in People’s Windows,” which was co-produced with Patrik Berger.
As a newly minted billionaire, Swift has been flexing her economic power over the past 18 months with her successful Eras Tour and concert movie. In a bold move to promote tourism, Singapore reportedly paid nearly $3 million per show for exclusivity to the Southeast Asian leg of her tour.
Fans can now stream both versions of “The Tortured Poets Department” on all major platforms, ensuring that Swift’s latest musical offerings reach a wide audience.
