SZA Reacts to Grammy Loss to Taylor Swift and Performs at Grammys
SZA, the talented artist who earned the most nominations at the 2024 Grammys, may have lost the album of the year award to Taylor Swift, but she is still shining bright. With nine nominations under her belt, SZA graciously accepted her wins and expressed her gratitude for the recognition.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, SZA shared her thoughts on the ceremony and her experience. “I’m grateful I won three. I could have left with nothing, and I didn’t, and I’m grateful. My parents got to see it and I didn’t bomb on live television, and that was so scary. And I faced some really big fears and I’m just happy that it all went well, genuinely and I’m happy for everybody,” SZA said.
Despite not winning the album of the year, SZA took home awards for best R&B song, best pop duo/group performance, and best urban contemporary album. She also made a memorable acceptance speech, shouting out Taylor Swift and expressing her appreciation for the recognition.
Fans, however, took to social media to express their disappointment over SZA’s loss in the album of the year category. Many pointed out the lack of recognition for Black women in this particular award, with the last Black woman to win album of the year being Lauryn Hill in 1999.
Overall, SZA’s performance at the Grammys and her wins in other categories solidified her status as a powerhouse in the music industry. Despite the snub for album of the year, SZA’s talent and artistry continue to be celebrated by fans and critics alike.
