Legendary singer, poet, and author Patti Smith expressed her gratitude towards Taylor Swift for mentioning her on Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” In an Instagram post over the weekend, Smith shared her appreciation for being included in the title track of the album.

Smith wrote in the caption of the post, “This is / saying I was / moved to be / mentioned in / the company of the great / Welsh poet / Dylan Thomas.” She also added, “Thank you Taylor.”

Swift’s song lyrics mention Smith alongside other notable figures like Dylan Thomas, a renowned Welsh poet known for his work “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night.” The song reflects on modern life and the complexities of identity, with Swift singing, “You’re not Dylan Thomas. / I’m not Patti Smith. / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel. / We’re modern idiots.”

Aside from Smith, Swift’s album also references singer-songwriter Charlie Puth, the Scottish band The Blue Nile, silent film star Clara Bow, and Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks. Since its release on April 19, Swift’s album has broken records on Spotify, becoming the most streamed album in a single day in the platform’s history. Additionally, Swift’s song “Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)” became the most streamed song in a single day on April 19.

The collaboration between these two iconic artists has sparked excitement among fans and critics alike, showcasing the power of music to bridge generations and genres. Smith’s acknowledgment of Swift’s tribute highlights the mutual respect and admiration between the two artists, solidifying their place in music history.
