Lana Del Rey’s Impact at the Grammy Awards: A Recap of Her Night
Lana Del Rey Shines at Grammy Awards Despite Not Winning, Receives Praise from Taylor Swift
Although Lana Del Rey did not take home any awards at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, she certainly made her mark on the music industry. The Fordham alumna, class of 2008, was nominated for five awards, including Album of the Year for her 2023 release, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.” While Taylor Swift’s album “Midnights” ultimately won the award, Del Rey was featured as a guest vocalist and co-writer on the track “Snow on the Beach.”
Swift, who won the final award of the night, brought Del Rey on stage with her and praised her during her acceptance speech. Swift described Del Rey as a “legacy artist, a legend, and in her prime right now,” highlighting the impact Del Rey has had on female artists in the industry.
In addition to Album of the Year, Del Rey was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, Song of the Year, Best Alternative Music Performance, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Producer Jack Antonoff also took home the Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) award for his work on both Del Rey’s and Swift’s albums.
Del Rey’s influence as an artist continues to grow, with support from fellow musicians like Swift. This support is reminiscent of the early days of Del Rey’s career, as she mentioned in an interview and performance at Fordham’s WFUV in 2011. Del Rey credited praise from peers at open-mic nights and early shows for boosting her confidence as a young artist.
Fans can look forward to seeing Del Rey headline Coachella in April and anticipate the release of her next album, “Lasso,” in September. Del Rey’s impact on the music industry is undeniable, and her talent continues to be recognized by her peers and fans alike.
