Swiftposium 2024: Exploring Taylor Swift’s Global Impact through Academic Discourse

The Swiftposium, a three-day academic conference dedicated to exploring Taylor Swift’s global impact, is set to take place from 11-13 February next year in Melbourne, Australia. With Taylor Swift recently being named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, the conference aims to showcase how the singer has influenced various aspects of contemporary life.

More than 400 submissions have been received for the Swiftposium, with 130 accepted from 78 academic institutions worldwide. The papers will cover a wide range of topics, including music, economics, business, media studies, health, and societal and cultural impact.

Although Taylor Swift will not be attending the conference, two keynote addresses will be delivered by Brittany Spanos from New York University and Dr. Georgia Carroll from the University of Sydney. The event will also feature presentations on lyrical poetics, cyber-security, AI, mental health, public relations, and more.

In addition to the academic conference, a public event called ‘Fanposium’ will be hosted by RMIT University on Sunday, 11 February, to kick off the week-long celebration of Taylor Swift. The Swiftposium is a collaboration between academics from six universities in Australia and New Zealand.
